Vision insurance is designed to provide annual routine eye care services, such as the refraction (how doctors determine your prescription). They often offer benefits on materials such as prescription eyewear and contact lenses (including contact lens exam).
Medical insurance is designed to cover eye care visits that are medical in nature, such as the evaluation and management of eye emergencies and diseases (eye infection, floaters, glaucoma, diabetes, dry eyes, macular degeneration, etc). It never covers the routine eye examination or refractive services. Most medical insurances have deductibles and copays associated with your coverage and require that we collect these fees at the time of your service.
